Will 5 Second Audio Ads be as Big as Adsense?
William Lund asked:
There is a new advertising kid on the block, and it’s NetAudioAds. They are 5 second long audio ads that play through a computer’s speakers when a visitor lands on a page that has the code on it. As the visitor waits for your page to load, the ad plays.
Once the ad plays, another ad will not play for at least 3 minutes. If after 3 minutes the visitor refreshes the page, or goes to another page on the site with the NetAudioAd code on it then the visitor will hear another ad.
When I first heard about the program my initial reaction was negative…Audio Pop-ups! I thought, just another annoyance to deal with as I surf the net. But after I had studied the issue I changed my mind. Now I think they are quite interesting and I’m anxious to see how it all plays out.
It’s a great program if you are the publisher of a website.
• You get paid for every visitor!
• The visitor does not have to click anything!
• Your visitor does not leave your website!
• The ad does not take up any room on your site.
• It ads work with blogs as well as websites.
• It doesn’t cost a penny to join…no risk.
You put a little piece of JavaScript code on your page and you are done! The audio ads don’t interfere with any other advertising including Adsense ads.
At the current prices publishers are getting about $1.00 for every 300 visitors.
If you as a publisher sign up another publisher you get a smaller piece of the ads that play on that publisher’s site as well. It’s actually a 3 tiered program.
Studies have shown that a 5 second audio ad is too short to annoy most people, and the ad does not take your visitor away from your site, so there is nothing to lose!
For the advertiser NetAudioAds can:
• Accurately track/target the ad spot
• The ad can be tracked from inception to close
• The ad can be geographically targeted
• The ad can be targeted to a specific time of day
• The ad can be contextually targeted to match the website it’s played on
• The ads can provide a higher conversion rate than Radio or TV.
• Because the ads are on the Internet, consumers can respond immediately.
Unlike Television and Radio, the listener is sitting at the computer, having just clicked on a link to open a new page in their browser. They are attentive and waiting in anticipation for the new page to load when the ad plays. The ad grabs their attention and they actually think about it.
• The listener is not in the bathroom
• The listener is not in the kitchen getting a snack
• The listener is not driving down the turnpike.
• The listener is not chatting with a friend.
The NetAudioAds program has been underway since early February on a limited basis until they get all the bugs out of the system, but people are already beginning to make money with the program.
As far as I am concerned there is one thing that will determine how well this program works and indeed if it will even survive. For the program to work, the ads will have to work. If the ads work for the advertisers, and I think they will, then the advertisers will clamor for the ads, and the publishers will flock to the program.
