PostHeaderIcon AdWords Tips – Checklist For Tracking Your PPC Results

Samuel Ng asked:

You must track the results of your marketing campaigns, especially when it comes to Google AdWords. In this way, you can cut down your spending on the losing keywords & scale up on the winning keywords. Here is a quick checklist on how you can track your pay per click results.

Leads Or Sales

First, define clearly the purpose of your pay per click campaign. Are you going to generate leads so that you can follow up with them on the phone or do you want to generate sales right away. Maybe you want to generate leads then follow up with them automatically with your email marketing system?

Conversion Tracking Code

Inside Google AdWords & other pay per click search engines, you as an advertiser can simply use the tracking code which is already provided for you. Just add that small piece of code on your thank you page & you are done.

The only limitation is, you can only track leads or sales & not both at once. If you do need to track both leads & sales, on top of the default conversion tracking code, you can use other tracking software such as Prosper202 which is free & AdTrackz which is inexpensive.

Google Analytics

Within your analytics you can look at the average time your visitor stays on your landing page. If it is too short, it only means that the first impression of your landing page simply turns people off.

You can look at your bounce rate, just to make sure that most people are not clicking away from your landing page before they even read anything. Put these 2 things together & you can see how well your landing pages appeal to your visitors.

PostHeaderIcon Testing and Tracking Using OneShoppingCart – Part 1

Matt Bacak asked:

Never underestimate the power of testing and tracking your website. This is something that should never be overlooked. It is such an important part of your business because it allows you to see what’s working and what’s not. This will in fact allow you to better see if where you’ve invested your money is worth it. If your testing and tracking results show poor results in a certain area, you know that you need to make some changes. Those simple changes can return thousands more dollars. That is why testing and tracking is so important.

So, what software do I recommend you use to test your web pages?

Well, an inexpensive program that is very powerful is OneShoppingCart. You can purchase a monthly subscription at OneShoppingCart.com. It allows you to have autoresponders for your opt-in pages, as well as shopping cart capabilities. But it also provides you with testing software called “Ad Tracker” within their software. Ad Tracker is great for A/B split testing. If you’re not familiar with A/B split testing, let me explain exactly what it is…

A good explanation of A/B Split Testing on Wikipedia defines it as “A/B testing, split testing, or bucket testing is a method of marketing testing by which a baseline control sample is compared to a variety of single-variable test samples in order to improve response rates.”

A/B split testing can be used in email tests as well. You can test open rates as well as clickthrough rates since OneShoppingCart has this built-in feature. But although the software can test both, I’ll explain where you should focus your testing. Don’t focus on open rates as that means nothing. Your focus should be on your clicks. Use Ad Tracker within OneShoppingCart to access these results.

Of course, there’s going to be certain emails that get higher open rates. For those emails giving poorer results, you’ll then just have to work on those emails. You could look at that from that perspective. But from my personal experience, I really just care what the clicks are. Maybe I’m kind of off, but looking at what generated the most clicks seems to have the most importance in my opinion. Focusing on this has allowed me to make changes that produced very positive results in the end.

However, the best and only way to test your emails is to send an HTML version of your email in order to find out what’s working and what isn’t. The reason why I said you have to use an HTML email for testing is because you can’t use text email to test and gain the results. It won’t work. It has to be through an HTML email. If you’re using an ad tracker in your links when you’re sending out your emails, you are going to be able to find out the clickthrough rates, but you’re not going to know your open rates. So, HTML is the only way you’re going to be able to do access those results inside your shopping cart or inside your autoresponder program that you’re using.

But remember, your software must have this capability as it’s crucial to test and track to ensure you’re not throwing your dollars out the window.

In part 2 of this article series I’d like to address exactly how to do your testing if you’re testing multiple aspects of your website.

PostHeaderIcon Clickbank Diet Product Launches Google AdWords Conversion Tracking For Affiliates

Kayla Schwinner asked:

If you are a veteran Clickbank affiliate who uses PPC to drive sales then I don’t need to tell you that winning the AdWords game takes a lot of trial & error and a lot of research. I’m sure you already know the importance of conversion tracking.

I’m sure you also know how few Clickbank products make it easy for affiliates to track their conversions. Sure some programs may do it if you contact them via EMail, but how many actually allow you to simply add your conversion tracking code to the end of your hoplink?

Recently a high paying Clickbank diet program added that feature which makes them a prime candidate for to be advertised via AdWords.

Using conversion tracking you can tell exactly which keywords and/or placements are making your sales (and definitely you should be involved in both the search and the content network.) Using the conversion ratios you can figure out which keywords & placements are worth continuing with and which ones need to be stopped.

For Example

The payout for this program is $50 per referral. If you have a 1% conversion rate with a specific keyword (for example “online diet”) then you be earning $50 for every 100 visitors you sent or 50 cents per visitor.

In this case you would need to be paying less than 50 cents per visitor in order to make a profit.

If you can get traffic on this keyword at only 25 cents per click then you would be making a 200% return. In other words, if you spent $500 on advertising you would make $1000 for a net profit of $500.

PostHeaderIcon Explored and Unexplored Benefits of an Ad Tracking Software

Jeff Rivers asked:

If you’ve been considering getting an ad tracking program for your online business, you just might be on the right track. This type of software can actually give your business a boost and in a lot of ways that may still be unexplored at that.

One is by providing you as an e-businessman with a weapon against piracy. Some elements on the web are actually out there to steal web pages’ HTML source codes to make similar ones of their own. You can confirm this by checking the clicks on your tracking links. IF you see sources other than your own website, then you’ve been thieved. When this happens, it’s important to act immediately by contacting that site owner and demanding to have that page removed.

Ad tracking software can also contribute to your business’ success by protecting you against unexpected changes. It’s important that you always track your links so you know when to redirect tracking links to new pages when you need to. This is definitely a great way to save your time and effort which you could very well spend on other important tasks. This is also applicable as you change your affiliate products.

Another use of this type of software is for hiding the privacy or identity of your site. Of course, this becomes very useful when you want to get people to a new product or service without associating it with your established online presence. However, when a person actually clicks on that tracking link, your site will still open on the user’s browser.

Tracking links also let you in on what people actually do when they land on your website. You will be provided statistics that tell you just how long your visitors stayed on each web page they viewed, thus, helping you judge whether or not your pages have been doing their job. Also, these links allow you to check if your ads have been submitted or removed when they had to be or if they’ve even been visible at all.

And then, of course, with your ad tracking program, you can earn income through commissions. You can actually explore the idea of making money out of this software by signing up with the manufacturer’s affiliate program. With just a little promotion, you’ll do well with earning just enough money to pay for your software with the commissions you receive.

PostHeaderIcon Customer Conversion Mistakes That Will Cost You

Shawn Meldrum asked:

The following are common mistakes that Sales Managers and Owners make in the sales process which could be costing you thousands or even hundreds of thousands in lost revenue.

- No system to capture and log prospect information/contact data on incoming ad calls.

- Poor tracking of incoming calls for source and ad success.

- No attempt to offer something to a prospect that`s `on the fence`,like free information, a cost savings comparison or an informative video or audio with testimonials.

- Not directing or leading the prospect towords what you want them to do. This is usually caused by not knowing what you want them to do next – what the next step in the sales process should be.

- Not following up on leads with a phone call.

- Turning leads over to a sales person that hasn`t been trained properly.

- Not tweaking your ads so that only those who are really interested and pre-qualified call, example: `Don`t call us if you`re satisfied with your monthly mortgage payment`.

- Selling/quoting prices before pre-qualifying the prospect.

- Selling price instead of unique benefits, payment or service.

- The `wrong` person answering incoming ad calls, example: over worked/cranky receptionist, busy assistant, lazy sales person, etc.).

- Not sorting and sifting (smart cherry-picking) through leads to determine the `good` from the `bad`.
